Sarasota Modern Homes Are Making A Comeback

In 2003 only one in 20 buyers were interested in houses built in a modern style, but this is all changing as more people seek simplicity in the design of their home. For a while there was a halt on building as the economy took a downturn but now we are seeing it pick back up, and along with that the popularity of modernist design is exploding!

Guy Peterson, whose Office for Architecture in Sarasota has a number of modern-style projects under way, says that “people are building again and looking at design with a fresh eye …people are realizing there is a history of modernism here and that maybe there is some validity to building on that.” Part of this is a growing popularity for warm modernism which incorporates the use wood. According to Peterson, “It is an object in the house…the wood forms become volumes that penetrate into the house. You read it as a wood element inside and out.”
