In a recent survey by online credit rating company WalletHub, the city of Sarasota ranks number 12 on their list of “2017 Best Beach Towns to Live In.” The company looked at 227 different cities with populations between 10,000 and 150,000 people and at least one beach and then ranked them across six key dimensions:
- Affordability
- Weather
- Safety
- Economy
- Education & Health
- Quality of Life
Sarasota scored highest in the Quality of Life area, which crunches data from a wide variety of factors ranging from average commute times to public beaches, water access and swimming pools per capita to shopping, dining, nightlife and recreational outlets. Coming in number 3 on the “QOL” list, Sarasota only trails Naples and St. Augustine, and beats out well-known destinations such as Miami Beach, FL (6), Monterey, CA (22), and Myrtle Beach (9).
As for the 11 cities in the overall rankings ahead of Sarasota, three of them are found in Minnesota and Michigan…so while the Great Lakes have nice beaches, not so sure I would want to be swimming in them ahead of the Gulf!
