Mid Century Modern is Back!

Modern

Mid Century Modern style encompasses the concept of indoor/outdoor minimalist living. It defies the brutalist style of modern architecture and provides a zen like warmth for its inhabitants. It is a middle ground for those not yet ready for modern architecture while still holding to traditional values of architecture and design, think Frank Lloyd Wright- tall ceilings, surrounding windows to bring lots of light in with kitchen, living and dining all being contiguous as well as incorporating earthy elements. The design reflects a peaceful and clear living environment far from stuffy traditional style but not as cold as new age modern design. Mid-Century Modern has its roots in California from the 1950s to 1970s and started with an ambition to mass-produce housing that was affordable, efficient, and driven by an indoor-outdoor lifestyle. This concept is being brought back today and particularly amongst the generation of Millennials who value lifestyle. “At some level, we see virtually all demographics interested in it,” says Dave Kosco, senior principal and director of design for Bassenian Lagoni Architects, Newport Beach, Calif. “But we believe Millennials will be the group to really put modern back on the map for mass-produced housing, based on their specific [intention] to stand out and be different.”

Here in Sarasota we have an outstanding example of Mid-Century Modern at its highest quality, our listing 2873 PINECREST ST, SARASOTA, FL 34239 embodies the elements of perfectly seamless design of its time featuring an open and bright floor plan with both floating and spiral staircase to upper levels.

18 foot high vaulted ceilings with original clear cypress wood greet you upon entrance and touches of earthy elements like the hardwood floors, and indoor water fountain for creating a feeling of serenity. One of the most special qualities of this home is the incorporation of the use of local Florida material, Ashlar cut coral stone which can be seen throughout the interior and exterior of the house most notably as a backsplash to the wood burning fireplace adding to the entire look and feel of the living space.
