Just as Sarasota was coming off a victory as one of the top 100 best places to live, it’s been given another accolade courtesy of Livability: The 2nd Best Place to Retire!

Based on a data-driven study of ranking factors especially of concern to retirees, such as health-care spending, cost of living, climate, and a host of others (yes, golf was one of them!), Livability chose Sarasota, FL and 9 other U.S. cities to be on its shortlist of greatest places to retire.

One of the Best Places to Live

Reasons why Sarasota was chosen as one of the best places to retire are similar to those that make it one of the best places to live: warm climate, plenty of things to do, affordable housing and an excellent quality of life. In addition to those amazing features, Sarasota was praised for its high percentage of residents age 60 and over, its numerous golf courses and parks, and its overall low cost of living, especially in terms of healthcare.

Birds of A Feather

The average age of Sarasota residents is 45, and more than one third of the county’s residents are 60 years old and up, so it’s not surprising that other retirees would make the move to Sarasota. Having a large group of peers around means more opportunities for social engagements and recreational activities, especially when you’re in a warm, tropical environment with an excellent arts & culture scene.

Outdoor Recreation fit for Retirement

When it comes to outdoor recreation enjoyed by retirees, our wonderful city offers the best of the best. Warm, inviting waters are perfect for swimming, boating and fishing, while sunny skies and balmy temperatures make tennis and golf daily pursuits. Not only does Sarasota boast some of the finest golf courses around, but it also has some of the most spectacular golf course communities. Beautiful beaches and an abundance of parks make even just walking around an enjoyable and relaxing pastime.

Affordable Housing and Healthcare

Speaking of spectacular communities, Sarasota is also home to many lovely master-planned neighborhoods. Places like Palmer Ranch are the epitome of luxury and convenience, and make every day feel like a vacation – which is exactly what retirement should feel like!

Sarasota also offers many excellent healthcare options and is home to one of the top hospitals in Florida, Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

With everything Sarasota, FL has to offer, from its tropical climate and gorgeous beaches, to its endless recreational opportunities and relaxed atmosphere, it’s no wonder retirees are flocking here.
